ACE COVID-19 Communication

TO ALL MEMBERS OF CUPE LOCAL 59:

Your Association of Civic Employees (ACE) understands that we are in a state of constant uncertainty in the face of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Workers and our families are at risk of contamination and illness. Children no longer have school, which introduces childcare challenges. There is a potential for our employment status to be affected at some point in the future.

These factors have launched us into unchartered territory and imposed constant flux in our daily lives.

In times like these, we all would like some clarity as soon as possible.  However, that doesn’t always happen as fast as we would like.

While we may not be able to control many aspects of our current world, we would like to take this time to assure you that your respective unions and ACE are working hard to minimize the impact the pandemic is having on your employment.

Each union affiliated to ACE operates as its own entity. We lobby for civic change and advocate for issues that affect our respective bargaining units.  Together, we collectively form the Association of Civic Employees.

We have recently welcomed the Exempt Staff Association (ESA) and the Saskatoon Civic Middle Management Association (SCMMA) to our table. Currently the ACE affiliates include CUPE Local 59, CUPE Local 859, CUPE Local 47, CUPE Local 2669, IBEW 318, IATSE 300, ATU 615, IAFF 80 and SPA.

The ACE Board & Executive are meeting regularly to discuss and try to produce positive change within your work environment.

Most recently, we have engaged in a very open communication session with the City Manager about the impacts to the workforce the pandemic has created.

We want to let you know that you can expect further communication from ACE.

We will work with our employer through these challenging times in an effort to reduce the impact on the City of Saskatoon’s most vital resource, its employees.
